HCRS has been supporting the Brattleboro Buddy Walk since its inception. HCRS is a silver level sponsor of the event and many staff and clients participate. The Buddy Walk was created by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness and to promote acceptance and community inclusion of people with Down Syndrome.
This year’s event, to be held on October 5th, is the 5th annual Buddy Walk in Brattleboro. The day will include many special activities for families: various vendors from the community, raffle prizes, music, and, of course, a one mile walk through the beautiful streets of downtown Brattleboro. Following the walk, lunch will be provided thanks to the generous donation from Vermont Country Deli. More than 40 HCRS staff and clients will be participating in the walk this year. The walk begins at 10:00 am on the Brattleboro Commons.
All money raised from this year’s walk will be donated to the brand new Inclusive Community Center in Brattleboro. The center will be a drop in center for people with disabilities and all interested community members. It will offer classes, socialization and recreational activities for those who are interested.
