HCRS’ Developmental Services program has been actively supporting this year’s Vermont Special Olympics Soccer Tournament. Twelve athletes from Springfield and the surrounding communities have come together to begin preparations for the tournament which will be held at Norwich University on October 26th. The athletes meet at the HCRS office in Springfield every week for practice. The athletes work together to learn the basics of the game along with teamwork, communication, and commitment.
The “Double U’s,” as the athletes have named their team, are very excited about the tournament this year. Two HCRS staff members, Kelen Beardsley and Kurt Blanchard, are coaching the Double U’s this season and also coach the Special Olympics basketball team. “We have a lot of great athletes this season who are learning a lot about the game and really having a lot of fun at the same time,” says head coach Kelen Beardsley. We would like to congratulate these athletes on the hard work and dedication they are putting forth this season and would like to wish them luck at their Tournament on October 26th!
