Springfield Moose Lodge Supports Special Olympics Team

The Springfield Moose Lodge #679 recently donated $526.00 to the local Special Olympics Team known as “The Double U’s.” The Double U’s Team was formed by employees of HCRS 13 years ago for individuals in both Windham and Windsor counties. Many employees of HCRS volunteer their time to coach and assist athletes so that they can participate in Special Olympics. Since its inception, the Double U’s athletes have participated in bowling, soccer, and basketball competitions at the yearly State tournaments.

Richard Jacobs, Governor of Moose Lodge #679, presented the check to Shawn Dennett, a local athlete who has participated on the Double U’s Team since it was formed in 2002. The Moose Lodge’s generous donation will help support the mission of Special Olympics which is to “provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities…” by providing funding for the Double U’s Team.

HCRS’ Developmental Services program provides comprehensive supports and services for individuals with a developmental disability. The goal of the DS program is to improve the quality of life for these individuals and their families. HCRS services include community activities, employment supports, a variety of living situations, educational supports, as well as many other opportunities like Special Olympics.
